Breaking the Silence: Monologues on Gender, Voice and Violence

Last Friday, at the United Nations in New York, the Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination co-sponsored an event entitled “Breaking the Silence: Monologues on Gender, Voice and Violence”.

Here’s more information and a video link.

The participants included Maria Butler. Butler is the PeaceWomen Director at UN Office of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF). The session was moderated by¬†Stefan Barriga, who is the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Mission of Liechtenstein to the United Nations.

The event’s invitation page described the event as,

“aimed at humanizing the discourse and bringing a personal perspective to issues of violence and women’s voices across the conflict spectrum. The monologues address issues faced by millions of women in the world today including abduction, sexual slavery, and forced domestic work. Together they provide an innovative tool to highlight the importance of women’s participation, protection and rights in conflict settings and the need to move from words to action in order to move forward the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. A moderated discussion will follow performance of the monologues.”
